Rooftop Views of Rome

Rome makes the most sense from above. Here are six stays where the roof is part of the reason to book, and what each one is really like up there.

From the street, Rome is narrow lanes and sudden piazzas. From a roof, it rearranges itself: domes, terracotta, the long line of the hills, and every so often the monument you've been walking towards all day.

These are the six stays in our Rome inventory where the roof is part of the stay. Each is guest-rated 8.0+ from at least 20 reviews, and every rooftop detail below comes from the hotel's own published information.

They are not the same thing. Two serve lunch and dinner on the roof, and Aleph adds a sixth-floor restaurant for dinner, with outdoor tables in summer. Two rooftop bars welcome people who aren't staying. Five have rooftop pools: four for summer swimming, plus The Rome EDITION's, which is currently closed. None should be assumed open year-round. We've said which is which, and what the catch is.

Choose your rooftop

1. Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome Hotel

Piazza della Repubblica

Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome Hotel rooftopAnantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome Hotel rooftopAnantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome Hotel rooftop

On the roof: SEEN by Olivier (restaurant and bar) and a seasonal plunge pool.

The hotel stands on the curve of Piazza della Repubblica, and its roof is really two places. SEEN by Olivier serves lunch and dinner from an international menu that includes sushi, and its rooftop bar does cocktails and light bites. Separately, there's a plunge pool for the warmer months.

Worth knowing: The pool closed on 5 October 2026 and is due to reopen in summer 2027. Confirm SEEN's opening arrangements before planning an out-of-season visit. The restaurant and pool are separate experiences. Access to the pool for non-residents is limited, subject to availability and may require a dedicated package. Check directly with the hotel before making plans.

Good for: A grand, central stay with a proper dinner on the roof.

2. The Rome EDITION

Near Via Veneto

The Rome EDITION rooftopThe Rome EDITION rooftopThe Rome EDITION rooftop

On the roof: The Roof (restaurant and bar, seventh floor) and a plunge pool.

The Roof is a seventh-floor restaurant and bar serving lunch and dinner, with views across the city's historic skyline. The style is contemporary: this is modern design above an old city.

Worth knowing: The rooftop pool is currently listed as temporarily closed, despite being described as heated and designed for year-round use. If swimming is important to your stay, confirm the reopening directly with the hotel before booking.

Good for: Contemporary design and a serious dinner on the roof.

3. H10 Palazzo Galla

Near Piazza Venezia

H10 Palazzo Galla rooftopH10 Palazzo Galla rooftopH10 Palazzo Galla rooftop

On the roof: Traiano Rooftop Bar, open to the public.

If what you want is a drink with Rome's great landmarks in front of you, this is a particularly strong choice. H10 describes views towards the Colosseum, Piazza Venezia, the Pantheon and St Peter's Basilica. Traiano is open to the public, not only to hotel guests, from 16:00 to 23:00.

Worth knowing: It's a cocktail bar, not a restaurant, so plan dinner elsewhere. Seasonal dates and booking rules aren't published. Check before making a special trip.

Good for: Sunset drinks with the landmarks, whether you're staying or not.

4. Mercure Roma Centro Colosseo

Via Labicana, near the Colosseum

Mercure Roma Centro Colosseo rooftopMercure Roma Centro Colosseo rooftopMercure Roma Centro Colosseo rooftop

On the roof: a pool and the La Grande Bellezza pool bar, May to September.

The reason to book is the view: the Colosseum is the centrepiece of this roof. La Grande Bellezza is a snack bar, so think drinks and light refreshments by the water, not a restaurant.

Worth knowing: The pool and bar are advertised for May to September. Outside those months, treat the roof as a bonus rather than the reason to book.

Good for: A summer stay close to the Colosseum, with a swim at the end of the day.

5. Aleph Rome Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton

Via Veneto quarter

On the roof: Organics Sky Garden, a small rooftop pool, and Sky Restaurant, a sixth-floor restaurant with an outdoor terrace.

Organics Sky Garden is a rooftop garden for cocktails and small plates, looking out over Rome's rooftops. It welcomes visitors as well as guests, and takes table reservations. It's open May to October, from 10:00 to midnight. Separately, Sky Restaurant serves contemporary Italian dinners from Tuesday to Saturday, 19:30 to 22:30, with outdoor terrace dining in summer.

Worth knowing: The pool is small, around 5 by 3 metres and about a metre deep, and runs May to September, 10:00 to 18:00. It's for cooling off, not swimming lengths. Children are allowed.

Good for: Dinner and long summer evenings on one roof.

6. H10 Roma Città

Marconi, outside the historic centre

H10 Roma Città rooftopH10 Roma Città rooftopH10 Roma Città rooftop

On the roof: a summer pool terrace with sun loungers, and a rooftop bar with snacks in July and August.

The distinction here is location. This is a rooftop pool terrace away from the historic centre, open 10:00 to 19:00 in season, with a bar serving drinks and snacks in July and August. It suits travellers who want a swim and a base outside the busiest streets more than a roof full of monuments.

Worth knowing: The pool can close in bad weather. La Piazzetta, the lobby bar, is a separate space, not a rooftop restaurant. You'll be travelling into the centre for the sights.

Good for: A summer swim and a base away from the centre, if you don't mind the journey in.

Questions people ask

Can you visit Rome's hotel rooftops without staying?

Some of them. H10 Palazzo Galla describes its Traiano Rooftop Bar as open to the public, and Aleph's Organics Sky Garden welcomes visitors and takes table reservations. Rooftop pools are a different matter: access for non-guests is limited or unpublished, so check with the hotel first.

Are Rome's rooftop pools open in winter?

Don't count on it. Anantara's pool closed on 5 October 2026 and is due to reopen in summer 2027. Aleph's and the Mercure's run May to September. The Rome EDITION's pool is listed as temporarily closed, so confirm the reopening with the hotel.

Which rooftops look out on the Colosseum?

The Mercure Roma Centro Colosseo's view is built around it. H10 also lists the Colosseum among the views from Traiano at H10 Palazzo Galla.

Which rooftops serve dinner?

Three. SEEN by Olivier at Anantara Palazzo Naiadi and The Roof at The Rome EDITION serve lunch and dinner. Sky Restaurant at Aleph Rome serves dinner only, Tuesday to Saturday.

How we chose these

These are the six stays in Elsewhere Luxe's Rome inventory that have a rooftop pool or rooftop terrace, are guest-rated 8.0+ from at least 20 reviews, and are hotels or guesthouses rather than apartments. We began with Elsewhere Luxe's Rome accommodation inventory, then reviewed qualifying rooftop facilities individually using hotel information, photography and independent research. We excluded private-room terraces and facilities that could not be sufficiently verified, and noted seasonal restrictions where relevant. Seasons and hours change, so check before you go.
